Today we're going to learn a new polyphonic word.



 

méi
 
 

①可以表示对领有、具有的否定。
It can mean the negation of having.
 
Wǒ méi yǒu gāngbǐ.
我没有钢笔。
I haven't got a pen.
 
 
②可以表示对存在的否定。
It can mean the denial of existence.
 
Tā méi zài zhèr.
他没在这儿。
He is not here.
 
③可以表示数量不足，相当于“不到”。
It can mean not enough, equal to "不到".
 
Lái de rén méi dào wǔshí.
来的人没到50。
Less than 50 people came.
 
④可以用于比较，表示不及，相当于“不如”。
And can use for comparison, means not as good as, equal to "不如".
 
Zhè jiàn yīfu méi nà jiàn hǎo kàn.
这件衣服没那件好看。
This cloth is not as nice as that one.

“未，不曾”，是个副词。
 "never", is an adverb.
 
Wǒ méi qù guò Běijīng.
我没去过北京。
I haven't been to Beijing.

A ship sank.

overflow
 
Shuǐ mò guò le wǒ de xiǎo tuǐ.
水没过了我的小腿。
The water came up to my calves.
